These songs are hard…in more ways than one. Wanna try to rhyme? Give it a shot.
We picked seven of the toughest rap songs to perform at karaoke.
So you just arrived at KAMU, your drinks and apps are ordered, and you want to try the toughest battle of all time on the mic: RAPPING. Okay, some Hip-Hop songs are not the most difficult—especially the melodic tracks where there’s more singing than anything else. Others though? They’re just a whole mission and a case study on talent and technicality. You wanna go for it, though, and we all respect that. So in the spirit of having a good time (and not winning any sort of rap competition), here are five songs that are the toughest to rap at karaoke. Now these are not for the faint of heart, so proceed with caution.
Chris Brown – “Look At Me Now” ft. Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes
Okay, here’s the thing with this song: it’s really just a Busta Rhymes issue. Chris Brown and Lil Wayne are both rapping at a steady pace, so it’s not like the whole song is tongue-tied. But if you’re the lucky winner of rapping that Busta verse, then BUCKLE UP. It’s about to be a high speed chase to the end of the song. Godspeed.
Twista – “Overnight Celebrity” ft. Kanye West
They don’t call him “Twista” for nothing. This song is so fast, it’s like getting caught up in some lyrical tornado…a twister if you will. This is one of those songs, where you have to really want to be a Gold Medalist in karaoke rapping to achieve it. It’s not impossible though. We have faith in you. Well, sort of…
Run-DMC – “It’s Tricky”
See, at first listen, a song like this one would appear easier because it’s not as fast, but the way in which Run-DMC rap on “Tricky” is nothing short of a tongue twister, like attempting to say certain sentences five times in a row and getting all mixed up by the third round. Well, this one is definitely tricky alright. That’s all there is to say.
50 Cent – “In Da Club”
Same premise as Run-DMC’s song. “In Da Club” is not the fastest in tempo or rhyme pattern, but it’s just the way 50 Cent puts the lyrics together that can leave you utterly confused. If anything, you can just get really good at saying “Go shawty, it’s ya birthday!” and leave it at that. That’s fine too.
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony – “The Crossroads”
It’s pretty safe to say that any Bone Thugs-N-Harmony song is going to be difficult by design. The entire group’s lyrical dexterity is a lesson in breath control, endurance, rhythm, and flow. But the beauty in choosing a Bone Thugs song gives you the option to choose amongst five different members to determine your ideal bars. Here’s a helpful hint: Krayzie Bone’s lyrics are the most difficult to master.
Dr. Dre – “Forgot About Dre” ft. Eminem
Adding this one for good measure, mainly because Eminem’s lines on this track are pretty impossible since they combine that speedy delivery with a difficult bunch of words paired together. Matter of fact, Eminem is another rapper whose songs are a “proceed with caution” at karaoke because they’re so tough. Give it a try. You’ve only got one shot, after all…(well, not really, you have many).
Naughty By Nature – “Hip Hop Hooray”
Oh, so you thought that just because you like the hook to “Hip Hop Hooray” and you can chant it just fine means you’ve mastered the rest of the song? Think again. Treach and Vin Rock both bring their Dirty Jersey bars into the mix on this one. It’s another instance of taking a bunch of words that are so tough to say, mashing them together, and making an entire song out of them. The skills.
