There are rules to the air guitar to look as authentic as possible!
No guitar needed.
Carlos Santana is taking over House of Blues this month in Vegas and will be bringing his hits all the way into 2026. It’s a special treat that few can compete with. Here is a legend who needs no introduction in any room that he enters. The cool part about Carlos Santana is also that while many of his songs are just him thrashing on the guitar, there are many songs with a little singing on the side.
If you’ve got your private KAMU suite, and you want to make a little halftime show of more guitar/less vocals, then Santana is the choice. There is one catch: you need to play the most difficult of instruments. And that is the air guitar. Fear not, we have a little tutorial for you. We are not kidding, and this is not a drill. Here is how to play the best air guitar.
- Actually envision a guitar
You can’t play the air guitar if you’re acting like there is no air guitar! The goal here is to always act as if there’s a guitar cradled in your arms. That way you’ll always look like the Rockstar that you are.
- Position matters
People sometimes think they can hold their arms and hands any old way when playing the air guitar. Don’t do that. Respect the instrument and position your hands like you’re actually plucking strings and moving along the neck of the guitar.
- Play it like you mean it
If you’re going to play the air guitar (especially at KAMU and especially during a Santana song), then you have to show some enthusiasm. Get your game face on and really give the crowd some energy.
- Knowing chords are a plus
You absolutely do not have to know how to play a physical guitar to rock an air guitar, but it can be cool to know how to move your fingers around the chords. You know, for authenticity’s sake.
- Have fun
This should go without saying, but sometimes a great degree of pressure comes from showing up as the master air guitarist. Don’t let that get in the way of you having a good time!
