Party Like A Flock Star

Written By: Ashley “Sparkles” Young,

Self-Proclaimed Karaoke Queen, Arts & Crafts Aficionado, and Chicken Wing Connoisseur

Gaga, Britney, JLo, Mariah, and Celine: all fabulous female icons who have headlined in Fabulous Las Vegas. So, when it came to planning my bachelorette party in Sin City, I wanted to add my name to that list- if only for one night.

I’ve always had a flair for the dramatic, a love of the stage and a passion for a good party, and I wanted my bachelorette to embody that. My vision was lots of pink, feathers, sparkles, sequins and all the things that are reminiscent of the showgirl era mixed with a little rock and roll. We had chosen The Flamingo as our group hotel, and, with it being a hen’s night, the theme for the event came to me rather quickly: ‘Party Like a Flock Star.’

Finding the Perfect Karaoke Venue on the Las Vegas Strip

I began scouring the internet for karaoke bars in the Las Vegas area, preferably on The Strip, and ones that could accommodate a group as large as mine. Though I had never been before, I immediately zeroed in on making Kamu Ultra Karaoke (located in the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian) the scene for my last night of freedom. Their karaoke rooms were individually decorated just as quirky and eccentric as I am, and they had a pink VIP room that would not only match my theme, but also give me and my 29 guests the time of our lives with both bottle service and a food menu that evoked escapism into a life of luxury. The best part: up until 10pm they are family friendly, which meant that my two soon-to-be teenage step-daughters could also be in attendance. Kamu was everything that my inner diva desired.

Inviting Guests and Setting the Rules for Fun

The message to my guests (ranging from ages 14 to 65+) was clear: you must wear pink, and you must sing at least one song, even if only with someone else, as Kamu would be a judgment free zone for us to channel that same uninhibited songbird energy that we express in the shower when we think that no one is listening.

Decorating Our Private Karaoke Room

Though the room we secured had fit my theme so perfectly that it didn’t need much, my mothers and aunts graciously took it upon themselves to jazz up the space with some decor. From the very beginning, Jin, the VP, was especially communicative and accommodating to our requests, creating a seamless process for my family to pizazz away. The tables were cloaked in metallic pink wrap, topped with glittery garlands and handmade bedazzled centerpieces. Little red heart shaped boxes served as platforms for illuminated confetti jars adorned with tiny playing cards, dice, hearts and red and black feathers- a glitzy tribute to that Old Vegas glamour.

Creating Themed Swag Bags for the Ultimate Bachelorette Experience

I created flamingo themed swag bags for all of my attendees. Personalized tumblers with disco ball straws and name tag friendship bracelets were accompanied by handcrafted pink sunglasses meticulously bedazzled (by moi) in rhinestones and flamingo sequins- certainly not effortless to create, but well worth the time. After all, every chanteuse needs a set of sassy shades.

Arriving at Kamu: The Atmosphere That Sets the Stage

Kamu doesn’t miss a single mark when it comes to creating an alluring atmosphere. From the second we arrived, we felt, for lack of a better word, fancy. The walk through the strobed hallway among a labyrinth of private rooms contributed to the vibe, amping up our energy with an eagerness to kick off the party with a pow!

Kicking Off the Karaoke Night with a Bang

As some of my guests are shyer than others, I took it upon myself to be my own opening act with a song choice that would surely set the stage for a fun loving and free environment: my rendition of Liza Minelli’s, ‘Life is a Cabaret.

“What good is sitting all alone in your room?

Come hear the music play.

Life is a cabaret, old chum.

Come to the cabaret!”

Singing, Dancing, and Making Memories Together

One by one, sometimes two by two and four or more, every single lady was front and center singing their heart out. We laughed, we cried, we danced, we played games. We told stories, and hugged, ate and drank, and celebrated my upcoming nuptials as family and friends, both old and new. Through the course of the evening we had become queens of our very own cabaret!

Daniel, Kamu’s marketing director, made it a point to pop into our room to greet us, and to assure us that whatever we needed, he would do whatever he could in his power to make it happen. The irony is, Kamu is so extraordinary on its own, all we really needed was each other, a song and a microphone.

Wrapping Up the Night: A Perfect Ending

By ten o’clock, the minors were required to depart, which is fair, but also sad because it meant we, too, had to say adieu. Had it only been adults, and had I not been getting married the very next day, I certainly would have extended our time into the wee hours of the morning. In showbiz they have a saying, “Leave ‘em with a big finish, and they’ll forgive you for the rest.” Well, after partying all night at Kamu, I can tell you- there’s nothing to forgive: every single moment was perfect.

We performed one last song anyway.

After the final note played out, our entire night was neatly packed up into two cardboard boxes, and the room morphed back into the same, pristine condition as it was before we had arrived. We closed the sound proof door behind us with a quiet acknowledgement that all good things must inevitably come to an end. We took our final bow, and left nothing behind but the phantom of our opulent opera.

Lasting Memories from the Best Karaoke in Las Vegas

The curtain on my Hen’s Night may have closed, but the memories I have from Kamu have been permanently cemented into my heart like a star on the walk of fame. I will never, EVER, forget the night I headlined in Vegas, to a private crowd of 29 of my nearest and dearest at one of the most impressive and exclusive venues on The Strip.

Kamu Ultra Karaoke gave me the most spectacular stage to live out all my ‘Flock Star’ fantasies, and for that I am eternally grateful.
